Dyes
The objective of my GSL project is how to conserve and help the environment through art. Art is not neccessarily only using paint and craft and what not. one can think of creative ways to recycle or best best of of waste. Fabric dye is a significant environmental concern, contributing to pollution.
The clothes we buy today usually contain several chemicals from the different types of dyes that are used. When we wash these materials that have synthetic dyes we are polluting our watersheds, ocean, and drinking water. There is a humongous amount of water supply and land being wasted, both are too precious in today's day and age being wasted. Before the use of harsh chemicals; people used plants, minerals, and even insect sources to dye their materials. Using these natural sources can help us create and maintain a healthy environment. My teammate and I visited an art conference last month and we met a lady who has lived in the Himalayas for around a decade and has helped the villages there to survive economically through the art of original dyes. She used several types of flowers, roots, nuts, and berries to colour fabrics. Natural dyes have an older heritage. Indigo, being the most used dye, is quite common among them. We have to try and promote ourselves and people around us to try this method of dyes.
